Here at Edinburgh Wedding Directory, we love nothing more than planning weddings! When we are not planning weddings, we love looking at weddings, and what is a wedding without a venue to get married? Over the course of the next few blogs, we will be looking at the different types of venues and hopefully giving you some inspiration for your wedding venue!

Venues come in many forms from outdoor to indoor and in a variety of locations across the world, but where better than to get married in the old land- Scotland itself? Now I hear you say that there is so much choice across Scotland for where to get wed, so how do I narrow it down? For me, its easy! There has never been a lovelier place than the Auld Reekie- Edinburgh! With its beautiful scenery and vibrant (and sometimes shady) history, there is so much to see and do around every corner!

Have you dreamed of getting married in a castle and feeling like royalty for your wedding day? Well, I have the list of the most beautiful Edinburgh castle venues for your wedding, looking after guest numbers from 2 to 200, you are sure to create memories that will remain for life!

Enough about Edinburgh, what about its castle venues? With a skyline dominated by the biggest castle- Edinburgh castle itself, which is also a working army garrison complete with museum, it is an unmissable landmark often pictured and celebrated. Can I get married in Edinburgh Castle? Of course! So long as your wedding is outside of the festival period (1 June to 30Th September) when the castle plays host to the Military Tattoo. Edinburgh Castle can hold up to 120 people for one of the more lavish affairs, or for smaller ceremonies, you can say ‘I do’ in Edinburgh’s oldest building- St Margaret’s chapel (religious ceremonies only). With sweeping views of the city, it is definitely worth checking out! Barony Castle Hotel

Situated just 35 minutes outside of Edinburgh in the beautiful Scottish Borders lies Barony Castle Hotel, a 16th century castle originally built for clan Murray of Blackbarony. Featuring stunning grounds including the Yew tree walk, leads to an altar, weather permitting, you can get married at. The altar was built on the site of a 19th century summerhouse- originally the site of private worship for the Murray family during the 17th century. Also within the grounds is the great polish map of Scotland, a 50x40m 3d scale model of Scotland built between 1974 and 1979 by a small group of poles as a ‘thank you’ to the Scottish Borders community for their hospitality after the second world war. You will be spoiled for choice for photo opportunities!

Weather permitting; say “I do “with your ceremony in the castle courtyard or at the Altar. For ‘less fortunate’ days (most days in Scotland) get hitched in the Elibank Suite, a stunning conservatory flooded with natural daylight. Don’t worry about accommodation for your guests, as the hotel boasts 82 bedrooms- from single rooms to junior and superior suites, they even allow dogs! Why not celebrate your day with your best furry friend too?
