Biography

A unique historic gem in the heart of the capital’s Royal Mile, Riddle’s Court is the ideal setting for a memorable wedding. With beautiful 16th Century painted ceilings, elegant rooms and romantic courtyards, it is personal, intimate, charming and full of exquisite period detail. The historic rooms are the perfect choice for ceremonies, receptions, wedding breakfasts and even ceilidhs. The King’s Chamber, our onsite 16th century apartment, is an ideal honeymoon suite for newlyweds. From the moment you enter from the Royal Mile, the venue exudes character and charm with a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere away from the bustle of city life. Enjoy a taste of history while celebrating in a building that has hosted kings, dukes and philosophers, writers and actors, and many others from Edinburgh’s rich and colourful past. Only a short walk from Edinburgh Castle, St Giles Cathedral and the Royal Mile Registry Office, we are perfectly positioned in the Old Town with lots of options for hotels and accommodation nearby. Riddle’s Court in conserved by the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust and when you book your wedding at Riddle’s Court, all the profit goes back into our charitable mission of restoring and renovating beautiful historic buildings. Our experienced team will work with you to bring your ideas to life, creating the style and atmosphere that is right for you.

Even from arranging to see the venue over a year before, Taylah consistently impressed us with her friendliness and organisational skills. No question was considered too small and every email was answered very efficiently. Everything was made to feel so seamless from Riddle’s Court own decor inventory to organising to borrow a cake stand and knife and to bring our array of DIY things for the wedding which we were lucky to be able to set up the day before. The recommended suppliers list, particularly the excellent catering option of Culinarians was great. Our wedding reception was perfect- Riddle’s Court is a beautiful venue with wonderfully preserved decorations and the most exciting disabled loo in the world, but also accessible for our elderly guests struggling with mobility.
